How to remix 2

The second part of How to remix

remix.jpg

Welcome to part 2 of how to remix.

You should have by now completed a good sounding bootleg remix, which you should be chuffed about.

You will now learn about making dance tracks and other areas involving “loops”.

Loops are the pieces of music which go “dum dum chh” then repeat themselves. They are what make up a lot of songs. You can buy different loop cd’s for around £60 or get some samples simply by going on one of the following websites:

http://www.samplenet.co.uk/

http://www.samplecity.net/

http://www.analoguesamples.com/

http://www.samplearena.com/

OR of course you can get some off your lovely P2P search engine. But remember – these are for sample use only, so don’t go flogging them to a mate!

Anyway, when you get these loops, make sure they are in WAV format. This way Acid XPress will automatically change the loop the beats per minuet (BPM) of your song, meaning you can click your mouse and there will be a backing track to your accapella or song.

Firstly, I will cover making an instrumental from the introduction or end of a track.

First, find any song where the main tune in the song is repeated all the away through. Now check if either at the beginning of the song there is and area of music where there is no singing over the top. (I have chosen “How Come” by D12)

Now, find the bit where there is no singing (make sure it is the same as the music in the song, as sometimes a drumbeat comes in after the first loop).

Once you have found it, isolate it by using split at cursor on each side (Note, in the song I was using there was speaking in the bit I was using so I simply took another part song from a different area and put them together to cancel out the speaking).

Next, delete the rest of the song.

Now click “Render As…” in the file menu and save the file as what ever you want and render it as an mp3 (unfortunately you cannot render it as a WAV file on this program, as you will need the real version).

Now you have your loop, start a new project and select the loop.

Next “draw” the music as before and then copy it (Ctrl+C). When you have done this, click the end of the track and simply click paste (Ctrl+P) until the track is as long as you want it to be.

Now put an accapella over the top and simply do what you learnt in the last tutorial and make a bootleg of your own choosing.

There is another sample below!
